The school has an all-embracing partnership programme including lots on the music front.  Initiatives include a day-long event for GCSE pupils in the South/South West of England studying Haydn’s Symphony No 104. This covered the social and political history of the day with the school orchestra performing it. Regular workshop days are organised in strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, keyboard and jazz. There are events for those suffering with dementia and other illnesses and young musicians go out to perform in local care homes and other institutions.

The long list of activities also includes weekly strings sessions for young people in the community. Some 350 concerts a year in the new Cedars Hall and 14th Century Quilter Hall are often offered free.  Vocal groups (including some performances with the choristers) perform regularly. Then there are the weekly Sing & Swim mornings for young children as well as a singing club at a local junior school.

Let’s hope the Summer Term restores some normality and the team can get back to doing what they enjoy doing – direct contact with children!
