The partnership work at Salisbury comes in two parts. Pre-COVID Susie Lamb and team engaged with three primary schools a term with an invitation to sing in the Cathedral. They have been sharing links to resources with their school partners during lockdown as well as with the Salisbury Cathedral Junior Choir members.  Before Easter they were working on Philip Wilby’s Make me a light – the anthem being taught by David Halls with harmonies by choristers and warm ups led by Susie. Schools were invited to send in recordings on social media.

Salisbury Cathedral School launched Voices InSpire to local primary schools in June 2018 and all places for 2018-19 were snapped up in just 2 hours! Choral animateurs from SCS made weekly visits to each term’s schools, teaching good singing practice and a range of repertoire culminating in a joint concert in Salisbury Cathedral, followed by a chance to hear the Cathedral School’s Jazz Band perform.

Salisbury Cathedral Junior and Youth Choirs are firmly established and are free to join. SCJC is for children from years 2-8, directed by Susie Lamb (DoM at SCS) and hopefully will be meeting again soon  on Saturday mornings at the Cathedral. The Youth Choir is for children from years 8-13 and is directed by Steve Abbott (a counter-tenor in the Cathedral Choir) on Tuesday evenings at the Cathedral School. Both choirs have plenty of opportunities to perform in the Cathedral and around the City during the year and we hope they will be ‘on stage’ again before too long!
