Raphael Sings to the World

The whole world heard 13 year-old Raphael Janssens sing the opening solo of the rugby anthem A World in Union at the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup 2015 at Twickenham on Friday night. Raphael, who was deputy head chorister at Rochester Cathedral and a pupil at King’s School, Rochester, then handed over to Laura Wright. The 25 year-old classical singer first shot to fame when she won the BBC Chorister of the Year Award and went on to form part of the All Angels quartet – ‘the classical Spice Girls’.

Raphael is no stranger to performing live. In addition to his daily chorister duties in the Cathedral he has sung with the King’s Singers, The Sixteen and the James Taylor Quartet.
