St George’s School Windsor Castle to join the St Albans Education Group

The Chair of Governors at St George's School confirmed that the creation of a new through school in the summer, to be known as St George's School Windsor and Ascot, will allow the school to build on their historic foundations and secure a strong and sustainable future.

In the press release the Chair of Governors commented:

“The St Albans Education Group (STAEG) is a growing group of independent schools united by a shared commitment to educational excellence, outstanding pastoral care and forward-thinking leadership. By joining STAEG, St George’s will benefit from the strength, stability and collaboration that come from being part of a successful and well-respected charitable group, The Board of Governors agreed to join STAEG, and are fully united with Head, Emma Károlyi, in their confidence that STAEG is the right partner for the school.

“For pupils this will enrich an already strong educational experience, offering new opportunities while retaining the close-knit nurturing environment that defines St George’s. For staff this will mean greater opportunities for professional development, leadership growth and cross-school networking. As a charitable group, STAEG reinvests all it generates back into its schools, providing a secure platform for long-term investment and innovation.

“Alongside this, we are excited by the opportunity to work more closely with St George’s Ascot following their announcement in January that they were joining STAEG. Together we are proposing the creation of a new, co-educational through school.

“The new through school, St George’s School, Windsor and Ascot, will offer a seamless educational journey from ages 3 to 18 with access to excellent facilities across two sites. The Kindergarten, Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior Prep to Year 8 will remain at Windsor, ensuring continuity and a strong foundation through early and middle years. From Year 9, pupils will then have the opportunity to continue their education at the Ascot site, just a short 15-minute journey away, through to A levels. St George’s Ascot is known for outstanding academic outcomes, with value-added GCSE performance that places the school among the top 3% nationally. St George’s Ascot is also looking ahead to becoming co-educational, welcoming boys into Years 7 and 9 from September 2027.
We have much in common with St George’s Ascot beyond our names. We both have long and proud histories, strong academic and co-curricular traditions, particularly in music and the creative arts, and both schools offer flexible boarding that reflects the needs of modern families. Just as importantly, our ethos, values and vision align, inspired as they are by St George, the great Christian saint, and there is a real sense of shared purpose about the future. Our Heads, Emma Károlyi and Hannah Fox, bring a wealth of experience, and are genuinely excited about working together to build something distinctive and enduring.

“We take great pride in our school’s history and our ongoing role within the College of St George, and we will continue to educate the choristers of St George’s Chapel. Joining STAEG and working towards the creation of St George’s School, Windsor and Ascot, will allow us to build on these foundations and secure a strong and sustainable future, while staying true to all that makes St George’s so special.”
