St John’s College School, Cambridge

St John’s College School educates the 20 boy and girl choristers of the world famous St John’s College Choir. The School has over 400 pupils from age 4 – 13 and is renowned for its excellent pastoral care as well as the significant academic achievements of its children.

The core philosophy of St John’s is to see everything through the eyes of children. We want children to feel supported and happy in their learning environment so that they can successfully build the foundations which allow them to be their best selves today and into the future.

We see each child as an individual and get to know them as such. Over many years the School has built up its own programme for emotional well-being called Emotions For Learning (E4L) and this gives young children an important toolkit for life.

Our Choristers

The boy and girl Choristers of St John’s College Choir sing six services a week during the Cambridge University term (Evensong on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Eucharist on Sunday morning). They often tour just before Christmas and at Easter and make regular recordings.

Auditions are held throughout the academic year and usually when a child is about 7 years old (Year 3). If successful, a chorister starts in Year 4 as a probationer.

All choristers board at St John’s College School with probationers boarding from Monday to Friday and then at weekends as well during the university term once they are full choristers.
