St George’s School Windsor Castle is an award-winning day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 3-13 and home to the choristers of the world-renowned choir of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
Alongside an exceptional reputation for musical excellence and a truly iconic setting, St George’s is the first standalone prep school in the UK to be authorised as an IB World School and prides itself on combining a pioneering, world-class International Baccalaureate curriculum, with exciting opportunities to collaborate across the globe through Round Square and a school-wide approach which prioritises mental wellbeing, to nurture children to be kind, resilient, inquisitive, internationally-minded and Real World Ready.
Described by Muddy Stilettos as ideal “for progressive families who want a modern education fit for the future” and by The Good Schools Guide as somewhere “families who want a liberal, outward-looking education delivered by bright-eyed teachers in a small and nurturing urban haven may find their child’s happy ever after”, St George’s is rated as ‘Excellent’ in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. Families are warmly invited to attend one of the school’s open events throughout the year, or contact the school’s registrar to arrange a personal tour.
Our Choristers
The Choir of St George’s Chapel was founded in 1348 and sings regularly in the presence of His Majesty the King and other members of the Royal family. In recent years, this has included singing at the weddings of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and HRH Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank, as well as the Committal Service for Queen Elizabeth II.
Choristers usually join the choir at the start of Year 4 and remain until the end of Year 8 when they leave St George’s for senior school. Choristers rehearse every weekday morning and sing services in chapel five days a week including Sundays, as well as on special occasions such as Garter Day and over Christmas and Easter. The choristers board at the school from Sunday to Friday (Sundays and Wednesdays optional) and receive a generous scholarship worth 50% of the full school and boarding fees.
A choristership at St George’s develops musical talent and nurtures key skills such as leadership, team work, and time management. Chorister open days are usually held in January each year, with prospective applicants in Year 3 invited to attend with their parents, to find out more ahead of auditions in February.
