Children have been educated on our site since at least 1072, and today sees both Gloucester Cathedral and The King’s School still thriving. King’s is an independent, co-educational, day school for pupils aged 3 – 18 with around 740 pupils in total. The School-Cathedral Foundation share a rich musical heritage which includes educating and inspiring world-famous composers, conductors, singers and organists. Today’s choristers are privileged to be part of this remarkable tradition and splendid setting.
Our Choristers
Choristers at King’s are young, world-class musicians who enjoy the combined benefit of both a wonderful musical education at Gloucester Cathedral as well as a first-class academic education at King’s.
Two equal choirs exist for choristers: one for boys and one for girls. Choristers usually begin their journey in Year 3 and finish at the end of Year 8. All choristers are day pupils. Rehearsals take place before and after school on four weekdays. Each choir sings two Evensongs each week, and choirs alternate for weekend commitments.
Auditions are held every February for admission in the following September.
Choral Scholarships are provided jointly by the School and Cathedral, totalling a 40% discount on school fees.
