Frideswide Voices of Christ Church Oxford

Founded in 2015, Frideswide Voices is the girls’ treble line of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford. The choristers are part of a unique joint foundation made up of a Diocesan cathedral and Oxford college which celebrates its 500th anniversary in 2025. The choristers sing Evensong once or twice a week with the Lay Clerks, and also attend once a week for a rehearsal and to receive one-to-one singing and theory tuition. The combined Cathedral Choir of girls, boys, and Lay Clerks frequently sings together for major festivals and College occasions, including annual performances of large-scale works at Christmas and Easter.

Auditions are held each Spring for girls currently in Year 2 to start in September of Year 3. The choristers, aged 7-14, do not attend the Cathedral School, but are instead drawn from over 20 schools across Oxfordshire and beyond: girls from all backgrounds are welcome. Girls leave the Choir either at the end of Year 8, or Year 9 by mutual agreement; many go on to music scholarships and specialist music programmes. Current choristers are members of organisations including the National Youth Choir, National Children’s Orchestras, and various junior conservatoire programmes.

Our Choristers

Christ Church Cathedral Oxford girls take part in 1 or 2 services per week. Choristers attend day schools of their choice – there are no school or boarding requirements. Auditions take place in the Spring of girls’ Year 2, for entry in September of Year 3. Taster days held in March and May each year.
