Founded by Henry VIII to provide Choristers for the Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral School (CCCS) is an Independent Day School set in the heart of Oxford.
We have a thriving co-ed Pre-Prep & Nursery and a boys’ Prep School (aged 8 – 13 years). We pride ourselves on exceptional academic and musical achievements – 50% of our boys achieved scholarships to leading secondary schools in 2024.
Our beautiful grounds on Christ Church Meadow give plenty of opportunities for Football, Rugby, Tennis, Squash, Athletics, Hockey and Cricket, and other outdoor activities.
Our School offers boarding for Choristers and Flexi-Boarding for Non-Choristers aged 8 – 13.
The School has a local mini-bus service to and from school during the week, wrap-around care, various curricular and after-school clubs, including Mandarin, Chess, Robotics and many more.
The School values kindness, honesty and good manners and is very proud of its alumni. CCCS is a happy and safe community where children discover and develop their talents within the classroom and beyond.
Our Choristers
We are privileged and proud to maintain the tradition of educating the twenty or so Cathedral Choristers, who are among the most celebrated and admired anywhere in the world.
During term-time, the choristers perform six services per week at Christ Church. Evensong is sung by the choir every day, except for Mondays and Wednesdays, along with the The Eucharist on Sunday mornings. The Cathedral Choristers also regularly collaborate with The Frideswide Voices, the girls’ choir of Christ Church Cathedral. In the past few years, the Cathedral choristers have toured to USA, Canada, and Sweden.
Every Cathedral Chorister receives a reduction of at least two-thirds of school fees, in recognition of their substantial contribution to the choir. There are means-tested bursaries available for up to 100% of fees. Cathedral Choristers also receive free tuition in two instruments, and international tours are fully funded.
Choristers are in high demand at leading senior schools, due to their maturity, work ethic, good time management and excellent musicianship. For over a decade every Cathedral Chorister has obtained a musical award at a leading senior school. In 2024, Choristers won scholarships to Marlborough College, Rugby School, Dean Close and Harrow School.
Our School also provides Choristers to sing in the chapels of Worcester College and Pembroke College during University term time. These Choristers are day boys who have a lighter singing commitment than the Cathedral Choristers.
CCCS organises several Choristers events and voice trials every year, where boys get to spend time at CCCS and in the Cathedral. To find out more, please email Lisa Johnson or call 01865 242561.
