Reigate & Croydon Girl Choristers Salute Mums!

Girl choristers from the RGS Godfrey Searle Choir and Old Palace School, Croydon sang together for a special evensong on Mother’s Day (11 March) in Croydon Minster. This was a celebration of the launch of the girl choristers at Reigate as well as an opportunity to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March. The support given by mothers to their chorister daughters was marked by a presentation of flowers and traditional simnel cake.

One mum commented: “I think it is fabulous the girls are finally able to  receive the same excellent standards of training and wealth of opportunities being a chorister brings. Rather than a break with tradition they are the beginnings of a new one. I feel privileged  every time I hear thme sing together.”

Another exciting collaboration is planned in St Mary’s Church, Reigate on June 16. Last year Reigate’s boy trebles joined the Choirs of Croydon Minster and The Chapel Royal of Hampton Court to create a 70-strong choir in Croydon Minster to stunning effect.

They will be joining forces again and tickets for this year’s concert are available from May onwards at the RGS box office, on the school website www.reigategrammar.org. Please contact Tali Glynne-Jones on tgj@reigategrammar.org for further information.
