Ampleforth and Wolverhampton do battle

Choristers from Ampleforth and Wolverhampton were finalists in both football and rounders when nearly 200 choristers from CSA Northern Division schools competed against each other in Wolverhampton on 20 May. Ampleforth claimed victory in both competitions – well done!

The very successful day was organised by Peter Morris, Director of Music at St Peter’s Collegiate Church. “We were very grateful to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC for lending us their Football Academy and new indoor football dome for the event.”

He and his wife Jane then entertained the visiting choristers and staff to lunch at their house – conveniently near the sports field. Jane commandeered ovens in kitchens of 10 neighbours to prepare for it and members of the Friends of St Peter’s Music and choir parents helped out.

Peter adds: “We went back to St Peter’s for Evensong and what must have been the biggest chorister sound in the church’s 1000 years of history. We were delighted that the Bishop of Wolverhampton presented the trophies at the end of the service. It was a wonderful and uplifting day.”  You can see lots of photographs recording the day in our Photo Album.
