Know a Child Who Loves Singing?

One of the great innovations of recent years is the event known as Be A Chorister for a Day. Click here to see if there is an event near you www.choirschools.org.uk/be-a-chorister-for-a-day/

The idea was pioneered by Salisbury Cathedral and has been adopted  by many of our Cathedrals. It’s a ‘try before you buy day’ for children who love to sing!

Next month Norwich Cathedral and Norwich School are hosting their first-ever Be a Chorister Day for local primary school children in and around Norwich.

Ashley Grote, the Cathedral Master of Music, says: “Following on from the work we have been doing in our Primary Schools’ singing project, we wanted to offer a day when all children of primary school age can experience the thrill of singing in the Cathedral, along with many others, and alongside our own Cathedral choristers.

Many people have no idea what being a chorister involves, or have misconceptions about who can become a chorister. I hope that our ‘Be a chorister’ day will change that.”

These days vary in format and are designed to be fun, giving children and their parents a taste of Cathedral life and a chance to experience for themselves what it’s like to sing in such a magnificent building alongside the choristers. Who knows, they might get ‘hooked’ with life-changing results!
