BBC Choristers 2016 – The Results!

Congratulations to Edward Hyde, Deputy Head Chorister at Rochester Cathedral and a pupil at Rochester King’s School, who is Radio Two Chorister of the Year 2016. He was joined by Florence Cain, a chorister at St Mary’s Church, Warwick, who was winner of the girls’ competition.

The competition was broadcast on Radio 2 on Wednesday, 26 October so you still have nearly a month to tune in and enjoy http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07zn3cl#play

This year’s judging panel was chaired by ever-popular composer (and ex-King’s College Chapel chorister) Bob Chilcott. He was joined by vocal coach ‘to the stars’ Carrie Grant and host Manchester Cathedral’s Director of Music, Chris Stokes.

Unusually, all four boy finalists were from cathedral choirs. Edward and Rupert from Rochester and Oliver and Joseph from Canterbury. As presenter Diane Louise Jordan commented; ” There must be something in the water in Kent that produces such talent!”

The other three girls came from Newcastle Cathedral (Amelia), Uppingham School (Lucy) and Guildford Cathedral (Hannah).

Guest performers were The Priests who, along with Edward and Florence, rounded off the evening with Bob’s Irish Blessing.
